On March 3rd, members of the NYCIA Council and Indivisible Sunnyside met with Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan of the 37th Assembly District of Queens to discuss election reform in NY state. Assemblywoman Nolan expressed her support for Assembly Bill 5312 – also known as the “New York Votes Act” -introduced by NY Attorney General Eric Schneiderman to boost voter registration and simplify the voting process. • early voting
  • shortened party enrollment deadlines
  • “no excuse” absentee voting
  • uniform poll site hours from 6:00 am – 9:00 pm
  • consolidated primaries
  • voter protections from improper challenges
  • increased language access
  • enhanced poll worker training and recruitment
  • restoration of voting rights to parolees
